FAQ
Do I need a purchased certificate at all?
Not for most websites: Hoster.gg automatically issues free Let's Encrypt certificates for websites and web spaces. A purchased certificate is worthwhile if you need a warranty, a seal, a longer term per issuance or validation of your company (OV).
How is my domain verified?
When ordering you choose a confirmation address such as admin@ or webmaster@ of your domain. The certificate authority sends a link there – after the click the certificate is issued. So the address must be able to receive emails.
How do I get the certificate onto my server?
In the customer portal you download the certificate and private key. If the domain is in a Hoster.gg web space, you install it there with one click – after a renewal we replace it automatically.
What is a wildcard certificate?
It applies to all subdomains of one level, e.g. shop.example.com and blog.example.com. When ordering you enter “*.example.com” for this.
